General Rules
Kitesurfing is still considered an extreme sport. Especially in New Hampshire it is very dangerous because we get extremely gusty winds, the water is cold, and there is not a lot of space for launching and landing the kites. Please use the following list as a reminders of the most important rules to be safe on the water.
General Kiteboarding Etiquette / Rules:- Give extra room to beginners.
- Obey lifeguards and town officials.
- Beginners must be accompanied by an experienced kiter.
- Beginners should seek professional instruction.
- Always get assistance when launching and landing.
- Kiters must yield to all beach users and water users.
- Talk to locals if you have never kited in an area before.
- Do not leave kites unattended.
- Wind up lines when not riding.
- Be cautious when launching and landing.
- Do not launch kites with people standing downwind of kite or lines.
- NEVER KITE AROUND BATHERS.
- Starboard tack has the right of way (right hand forward is starboard, left is port).
- When passing or overtaking another kiter, the downwind rider lowers their kite.
- The overtaken rider has the right of way.
- Jumping kiters give up right of way.
- Always look around you before you turn or jump.
- Priority is given when riding a wave.
- Do not kite within 200ft of shore unless launching and landing.
- Do not fly kites over people or restricted areas.
